Teaching and Learning has many opportunities for growth to offer, but we also invite you to be a part of the change that needs to happen. Monitor this newsletter regularly and respond to those areas that interest you. We facilitate the development of professional learning by members, for members. Allow us to assist you to learn, grow professionally, and impact others!
Effective September 19, NBPTS will allow licensed educators to become candidates for certification prior to completing their third year of full-time teaching or counseling. Candidates still must have completed three full years of work in their certificate area prior to submitting their final component in order to certify. Click here for more details about eligibility to pursue National Board Certification.
Join us for an informative webinar providing an overview of the National Board Certification process, how to become a candidate, and the benefits of certification to educators, their students, and schools. Upcoming session include Tuesday, August 23 at 12 p.m. (register here) and Monday, September 12 at 4 p.m. (register here).
Our NBPTS Affiliate Network partner in southeastern Virginia will host its fall conference at Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday, October 22. Programming includes support for National Board candidates and the VEA and SEVA are collaborating to offer training for current NBCTs interested in mentoring candidates. Completing this Professional Learning Facilitator training may satisfy the VEA’s training requirement for becoming a candidate support provider through our union. Registration information will be coming soon
As we prepare to start our year (or maybe you have already started), keep in mind that the learning environment can look different. From Edutopia, we learn that there are museums that offer exceptional resources for educators. From full-fledged lesson plans and virtual field trips to expansive digital archives and opportunities for professional learning, museums have so much to offer beyond the in-person experience. Check it out HERE.
