Welcome to Teaching and Learning TODAY. It is our goal to provide high-quality professional learning for teachers and ESPs as a value of membership in your Union. As we continue to recover from the pandemic, educators and students both have many needs. The work you do is more important than ever. We want to support you as you show up as a professional and a Union member to confront the challenges. Allow us to assist you to learn, grow professionally, and impact others!
As a recognized NBPTS Affiliate Network, the VEA regularly collaborates with two other networks in our state to advocate for National Board Certification and support NB Candidates.
The Virginia NBCT Network will host its NBCT summit and annual business meeting at Virginia State University this fall. Stay tuned for more details about programming and registration.

Dr. Amber Brown joined the team in October 2020 as the Teaching and Learning Specialist. She started her teaching career in Dinwiddie County Public Schools as a Special Education teacher and eventually moved into the role of high school Assistant Principal. She then moved to Richmond Public Schools, first as an Instructional Specialist and then as a 504/IEP Specialist for Exceptional Education. Amber has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a master’s degree in Administration and Supervision, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership – all from Virginia State University. She is the lead on the implementation of VEA’s learning portal, facilitator of content development and training for trainers, liaison to the Special Education Committee, and works with our Aspiring Educators. Amber brings knowledge, experience, insight, commitment, and passion to support our members every day!
Teacher shortages are a serious issue across the country. Here in Virginia, there are currently over 3,648 unfilled teaching positions. (FY23)
