The Virginia Board of Education will hold public hearings on the Proposed Revised 2023 History and Social Science Standards of Learning. The Standards of Learning identify the essential content, processes, and skills for grade levels and subject courses. The proposed 2023 History and Social Science Standards of Learning can be accessed on the Virginia Department of Education’s website. Public comment regarding the proposed revised 2023 History and Social Science Standards of Learning may be offered through public hearings or public comment through the Virginia Department of Education website until March 21, 2023.

The Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) is seeking volunteers to be trained, approved, and become part of review teams for ed prep programs across the country. CAEP needs at least 20 new P-12 educators every year.      

Do you know a teacher leader who might be interested? 

Who is qualified?

** Skilled & knowledgeable educator

** Writes well

** Comfortable collaborating with teacher prep faculty

** Excellent for people already collaborating with higher ed (cooperating teacher, instructors, etc.)

Online applications are due by the end of March (to CAEP).  Training (free) will occur virtually (between May to August).  NEA will provide an orientation and assist with training for P-12 educators.

If selected, new site visitors might be assigned to teams beginning in the Spring of 2024.  Volunteers can decline assignments based on their availability.  Actual process involves several months to review documents, connect once or twice online with their team, and culminates with a “site review” requiring a couple of days of sub time.  NEA covers the cost of subs.

NEA is offering a series of shorter Praxis Content Sessions to help you study and prepare for your exams. Each day is dedicated to a different exam. All sessions meet virtually for 2 hours from late January-February 2023.

Are you interested in supporting current candidates on their journey to earning or maintaining National Board Certification? VEA Teaching & Learning is offering National Board Professional Learning Facilitator (PLF) training virtually via Zoom on Saturday, March 25. Led by experienced NBCT PLFs, this training include National Board fundamentals and strategies for ethical and effective coaching of adult learners through the National Board process. This training is offered free to VEA members as a benefit of membership. Non-members: $35; members of our National Board Affiliate Network partners: $25.
